The use of a new 3D real time implants simulator and positioning device in clinical dentistry.

 Abstract:

The team of the present study has succeeded, 2 years ago, in the development of a new powerful real time 3 D dental implants simulator software that does not need CT images and can use crossectional tomograms taken at the dentist office and stone models instead. The new implants simulator has added features and practical proven accuracy with ease of use even by beginner implantologists. The authors developed also a digital milling device (TARIM) for the purpose of transferring the treatment plan decided on that implant simulator to a dual purpose radiographic-surgical template creating drilling guiding tubes and then inserting the implants in the patients jaw accordingly. The whole system was tested clinically and radiographically. Achieved accuracy of results is discussed on reverse engineering basis. The implants inserted according to this technique came in full accordance with the treatment plan decided preoperatively on the PC monitor. The potentials of the new milling device for use in other related fields of dentistry are also discussed for the first time.
