Who is Dr. James?
In the aristocratic Great Britain, attendants used to be called butlers and the usual name of a butler was James. James, the SimPlant's butler, is going to take care of surgeons planning implants. As long as this butler works in the field of Implantology his name is Dr. James. Dr. James was created to be the surgeons' virtual planning assistant.
How does Dr. James plan implants?
Implant planning is based on a series of decisions ending with the optimal result. Rules might be different if we use screw-retained or cemento-retained prosthesis, rules might be different if we consider grafting bone or not, but basically there is a step-by-step protocol of decisions. This protocol of decisions was investigated and transferred to result in a new tool: Dr. James.
In no way the virtual implant placement tool should impose a specific type of implant placement. Dr. James plans implants based on each favorite implant choice of each surgeon.
To use Dr. James tool one needs to:
Define a certain number of parameters one time for all based on each surgeon preferences.
Define for each case the different “actors” in presence: bone, teeth to be replaced and nerve if there is one.
Let Dr. James do the job, control and modify if needed.
The 1st International Computer Aided Implantology Academy Congress (May 2006) will take place in Rome. Speakers and Moderators from all around the world will contribute with their experience to the knowledge in the Computer Guided Implantology and the most commonly used software systems and platforms, including Dr. James. The CAI Academy is an international non-profit association that oganizes workshops, implantology courses and congresses for Implantologists and Prosthesists who need continuous adjournments and education on Computer Assisted Implantology.
