Abstract:
Correct treatment planning is one of most important element of successful implant treatment. It is untill now, based on clinical exames, casts and x-ray images. Often in spite of accurancy of clinical records there is no intraoperative correspondence between planning and anatomy and the discrepancy some time is not easy to solve. The conventional protocol for immediate loading in case of partial and full edentulism is many time difficult to management. The possibility to reduce post-operative symptoms with conventional approach its a procedure’s limit. Reduction of many other clinical disconfort as (removable prosthesis, healing surgery time, etc.) social (temporary interruption of worktime, long time at the dentist-chair, expansive cost, etc.) and psycological (dentist\patient stress, etc.) its with no doubt another limit of procedure.
This is why technological innovation not only of CT-Scan but also of several softwares dedicated to 3-D anatomy reconstruction and implant planning. They provide the surgeon to virtual planning the correct 3-D position of implants in respect of anatomy of the patient and prosthetic rules. They produce a surgical template which is fully in line with virtual planning. In many cases interfacing with cad\cam devices this allows to place a temporary or final prosthesis, produced on the basis of same information immeditely after the surgery.
Another answer to clinicians and patients demands are navigation devices. They use the same software and allow to control the position of all components thus enabling the clinicians to see the progression of work and wheter it is matches the treatment plan. Its easy foresee a wide-spread diffusion, but its also raccomanded more scientifical and clinical evidences.
